Fort Lauderdale authorities were able to identify the subject whose body was found in a beach parking lot in Fort Lauderdale early Friday morning.

Police say Steven  Campbell, 31, of Fort Lauderdale, was found shot to death in the 800 block of Seabreeze Boulevard shortly before midnight, Miami.CbsLocal reported.

Arriving officers found Campbell with gunshot wounds on the ground next to a black pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parking is within walking distance of the beach.

Anyone who witnessed anything in the area around midnight should call the police.

Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is a city located in Broward County, in the US state of Florida, of which it is the county seat, and is located between the counties of Miami-Dade and Palm Beach.

In the 2010 Census it had a population of 165,521 inhabitants and a demographic density of 1,656.89 people per square kilometer,34 being one of the main cities in the South Florida metropolitan area, which is home to more than 5,413,212 population.

 

The city is a popular tourist destination with 10.35 million visitors in 2006,7 as well as a major center for sailing, with 42,000 resident-owned boats, one hundred marinas, and shipyards.7 Ft. Lauderdale and its suburbs add more than 4,100 restaurants and 120 nightclubs.

Ft. Lauderdale is named for a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War; however, development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the war ended and the forts were abandoned.

Three forts called Fort Lauderdale were built; the first of them next to the New River; the second in Tarpon Bend, in what is now the Sailboat Bend neighborhood; and the third near the Bahía de Mar Marina. All of them took their name from Major William Lauderdale, commander of the detachment in charge of building the first fortress
