The appeal presented by the League (Spanish First Division) to a court in Madrid, against a previous ruling that supported the refusal of the national football federation against the realization of a domestic tournament match in Miami, was rejected .

In this regard, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) released on Thursday the opinion of the Provincial Court of Madrid and praised it. “This is the second time that justice has ruled on this matter and once again dismisses the position of the League.”

Meanwhile, the appeal was due to a failed La Liga lawsuit against the RFEF, which stopped the staging of a match between Barcelona and Girona in Miami in January 2019.

On the other hand, the federation also rejected the realization of a match between Atlético de Madrid and Villarreal in the United States in the following season.

For the federation, playing abroad would distort the competition and create an adverse situation for the other teams. The League came up with this argument by arguing that its intention is to promote the tournament in international markets, as the RFEF does with the Spanish Super Cup.

Also, the federation reconfigured the Super Cup format two seasons ago, bringing four teams to play in Saudi Arabia. He contemplated doing it again last year, but ended up doing it in Spain due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In this regard, FIFA was also against this meeting through its president, Gianni Infantino, who warned that “FIFA will not authorize the dispute of this match either in the United States or in any other location than the Girona stadium.” .

Finally, despite acknowledging that he will not be able to play in January, the Spanish championship assured this Monday that “the League project with Relevent, signed 15 years from now, is going ahead” and is confident that “in the shortest period possible , the league will play an official match in the USA ”. Publication of Diario Las Américas.
